Righteousness

Discover the surprising truth behind Jesus' teachings on righteousness and who He came to call. In Luke 5:31-32, Jesus explains why He dines with tax collectors and sinners, revealing a profound lesson. It's not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. Jesus emphasizes that he didn't come to call the righteous, but rather sinners to repentance. Find out more about the deeper meaning behind Jesus' invitation to accept God's righteousness.

Righteousness

Righteousness 101 (Part 1)
What a shock this statement must have been to everyone who heard it. The Pharisees were, by human standards, very righteous. They practiced the letter of the law in each moment of every day. In fact, no one could accuse them of breaking any of the commandments because of the outward holiness that was exhibited. And yet Jesus said it was not enough.
The Foundation of Righteousness (Part 2)
God created humankind in perfection. What made it perfect is that we were created to experience an intimate and personal relationship with Him. Adam and Eve were created in this righteous state; sinless before God. When the serpent deceived Eve, it was by challenging this position of righteousness.
God is the Source of Righteousness (Part 3)
In 2004 I headed out with a group to a church plant. Over the next several years we worked tirelessly caring for the growing church. It was a great experience. Many times filled with heartache, but most of the time filled with joy and excitement. But somewhere along the line what had been a joy and passion had turned into a terrible burden.
What is Self-Righteousness? (Part 4)
We must understand the difference between our righteousness apart from God and our righteousness with God as the source. Comprehension of these things will bring about a perspective change in how we relate to God and operate in His kingdom.
What is God’s Righteousness? (Part 5)
The righteousness of God is essentially the same as His faithfulness and truthfulness, and it is consistent with His nature and promises. In essence, the entire character of God depends on His ability to always do the right thing. For humanity, God’s righteousness, ‘the character or quality of being right or just’, was demonstrated in Jesus.
Jesus Role in Making Us Righteous (Part 6)
Jesus came to make you righteous. What sin took from you in the fall, Jesus came to restore. Humanity was created in God’s image and enjoyed a perfect union with God. Sin interrupted that until Jesus came making it possible to be brought back into that perfect standing because of the righteousness He gives as a gift through faith.
