"God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don't you know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah-how he appealed to God against Israel:  "Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me"? And what was God's answer to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal." So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace" (Romans 11:2-5)

Have you ever felt completely alone in your faith? Like the whole world is walking one direction and you're the only one going the other? You look around, see a culture that seems to have shrugged God off, and a heavy loneliness settles in.

Some of the boldest people in the Bible felt exactly that.

Paul brings up Elijah to make the point. Elijah had just watched an undeniable miracle on Mount Carmel — proof, in front of the entire nation, that God was real. Almost immediately, Queen Jezebel threatened his life. Fear took over and he ran. When God found him, Elijah poured it out: "I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too" (1 Kings 19:10). Worn out. Convinced faithfulness had disappeared from the earth.

Watch how God responds. No lecture. No scolding. Just a stunning revelation: "Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel — all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal" (1 Kings 19:18). You are not the only one left. I've kept a people for myself.

Paul carries that truth into his own day — and into ours. Even when it looks like everyone has walked away, God is still at work. There's always "a remnant chosen by grace." And notice — this remnant isn't held together by willpower or performance. It's held by God's grip, not ours. "The LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance" (Psalm 94:14).

The promise extends further too. Paul explained earlier that the real family doesn't come through bloodline — it comes through the promise (Romans 9:6-8). And that promise finds its home in Jesus. "If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (Galatians 3:28-29). Through faith, you join a remnant stretching across the whole world and back through every century. You're part of a story still being written.

God keeps His word. He watches over it (Jeremiah 1:12), and it never comes back empty (Isaiah 55:11). So loosen your grip on the discouragement. You're not alone — and He's holding you closer than you know.
