"To which of the angels did God ever say, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet"? Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" (Hebrews 1:13-14)

The entire first chapter of Hebrews serves a magnificent purpose: to elevate our understanding of Jesus by comparing Him to the angels. Through this lens, we begin to grasp the true glory and majesty of Christ. Everything about Him—His name, His title, His rank, and His position as the Son—is shown to be infinitely superior. His work speaks for itself. His power in creation and His sacrifice in redemption have earned Him the place of highest honor in the universe. It is a beautiful truth to realize that even the angels exist to worship and serve Him.

A Confession Every Knee Will Make

A day is coming when this truth will be undeniable. Every person who has ever lived will confess the lordship of Jesus Christ. Right now, He is seated in the place of ultimate authority, at the right hand of God the Father, waiting for that final day when all His enemies are brought under His feet. No one will be able to escape this moment. When faced with the awesome reality of who Jesus is, every knee will bow.

This universal confession is not arbitrary; it is the only proper response to the glory due Him as the Savior of the world. The Apostle Paul describes this future event with breathtaking clarity:

"And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2:8-11).

This moment will bring immense glory to God, who is eternally pleased with His Son and the redemptive work He accomplished.

The amazing thing is that, by His grace, we have the opportunity to make this confession now. This is the very essence of salvation. As Paul also wrote, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). We are presented with a choice. We can declare His lordship today, escaping the consequence of rejecting Him and receiving the gift of eternal life He freely offers. Or we can wait until that final day when the choice is gone, facing an eternity separated from Him. By His position and the future confession of all creation, His supremacy is made perfectly clear.

The Believer's Position with Christ

Here is another amazing truth that flows from this reality: as believers, our position has also been elevated far above that of the angels. At the moment of salvation, we were spiritually raised and seated with the Lord Jesus in the heavenly realms. "And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace" (Ephesians 2:6-7). This is not a future hope but a present reality. Our citizenship is in heaven. Though we wait for the day our physical bodies will be redeemed, our spirits are already united with Him.

This spiritual reality has profound implications for our daily lives. Paul urges us, "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (Colossians 3:1-2). This is a call to live according to who we now are: co-heirs with Christ, raised and seated with Him, with our focus fixed on eternal realities.

In light of this, we see that we, too, hold a position of authority superior to the angels. In fact, this passage in Hebrews reveals one of their primary roles concerning us: "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" (Hebrews 1:14). God sends angels to render service and help to believers. This shows how deeply God values us and highlights the incredible honor He has bestowed upon His children.

The Kingdom Restored to God

The work of Christ has a final, glorious conclusion. He will reign until every enemy is defeated, and then He will present the restored kingdom back to the Father.

"Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet... When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all" (1 Corinthians 15:24-28).

Jesus was chosen before the foundation of the world to be its Savior. In the end, He will hand all of creation back to God, fully redeemed and restored. What a wonderful and awesome truth.

The great takeaway from all of this is an invitation to evaluate our own hearts. Have you confessed Christ as Lord? His superiority is evident in who He is and all He has done. The time to make this life-giving confession is now. We have this life on earth to embrace the amazing truth of God's grace and accept His free offer of salvation. This decision not only secures our eternal future but also gives this present life its deepest meaning and purpose.
