“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8)

We live in a world that constantly shifts beneath our feet. Software updates overnight, neighborhoods transform in a few short years, and our personal circumstances can change with a single phone call. In the middle of all this constant movement, we naturally crave something solid to hold onto.

If there was ever a passage of scripture to draw deep comfort from, it is this simple, profound sentence found in the book of Hebrews: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

This is a foundational truth written in heaven. Jesus does not change. He will not take back His words, and He will certainly not revoke His offer of unconditional love and grace. As the world around us feels increasingly unpredictable, Jesus remains the sturdy anchor that keeps us completely safe.

One of the most striking things about the book of Hebrews is how it highlights Jesus as the absolute guarantee of God’s promises. The writer explains that God wanted to make His unchanging purpose incredibly clear to us. To do this, He confirmed His promise with an oath. Because God cannot lie, we are given powerful encouragement. The scripture tells us that we have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure (Hebrews 6:17-20).

God secured our redemption by swearing by Himself, making it absolutely certain (Hebrews 6:13). Jesus then sealed this promise through His sacrifice. Because of this, we are reminded that Jesus will be the exact same throughout all the ages. This is a profound encouragement for anyone whose faith and hope rest entirely on Him.

Scripture tells us over and over that God will not change His mind. In the book of Malachi, He declares plainly that He does not change (Malachi 3:6a). James echoes this same thought, writing that every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father, who does not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17).

There is even a fascinating story in the book of Numbers where a man named Balaam was actually paid to curse the people of Israel. God simply did not allow it. Instead, He pronounced a blessing through Balaam, declaring that God is not a man that He should lie, or change His mind. He speaks, and He acts (Numbers 23:19). What was originally intended to harm the people turned into a powerful reminder that God always keeps His word.

Jesus is the same today as He was thousands of years ago. He will not recant His Word. He will always prove Himself faithful from the beginning of our spiritual journeys to the very end. We should let this truth penetrate deep into our everyday thoughts. Take a quiet moment to reflect on your own life today.
