"The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead." (Romans 4:23-24)

Let's all take a deep breath and just exhale.

If you've ever felt worn out by the pressure of trying to be "good enough" for God, these two verses are a genuine lifeline. Real peace and acceptance come when we trust His power to save us instead of endlessly leaning on our own.

When we read about Abraham, it's tempting to file him away as some distant, untouchable hero of the faith. But Paul makes a striking move here. Those words—"it was credited to him"—weren't recorded just to tell us a nice story about a great man. They were written for us.

That means the same grace that met Abraham is reaching toward you right now. God credits righteousness—full acceptance, right standing—to everyone who believes in the God who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

Across the first four chapters of Romans, Paul keeps driving home one point: real righteousness can't come from our own effort. No amount of rule-keeping, moral perfection, or spiritual striving will ever secure our standing with God.

Instead, the invitation is to stop trying and start trusting. As Paul said earlier in this chapter, God credits righteousness as a gift, not a wage for the one who works (Romans 4:5). The promise comes by faith so that it can be by grace (Romans 4:13). Once that clicks, we realize faith was never about mustering up our own strength. It's about leaning fully on His.

And to show us just how capable God is, Paul points to the ultimate display of power: He raised Jesus from the dead.

Line up our human limitations next to God's resurrection power and the gap is staggering. We can't raise the dead. We can't heal our own deepest brokenness or erase our own pasts. But God can.

Our confidence doesn't rest on our shaky ability to hold life together. It rests on a God who pulls life right out of death. If His power can empty a sealed grave, surely we can trust Him with the fragile, broken pieces of our everyday lives.

So think about it honestly. What comes up in you when you set your own limited power beside God's limitless resurrection power? Where are you still keeping score of your own sins, quietly punishing yourself for things He's already forgiven? Where do you need to finally lay down your own exhausting strength and let His resurrection power carry you?

You can drop the weight of striving today. Your right standing with God is a finished work, fully secured by His grace.
