“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)

This morning, I found myself captivated by this single verse. I spent an hour just unpacking its words, trying to fully grasp what it means to be “blessed in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

After sitting with this passage, I reached for a journal from a decade ago. While my other journals are tucked away in boxes, this specific one holds a permanent spot on my desk. As I turned its pages, I was transported back in time, reading through my own thoughts from years ago. Page after page was filled with me wrestling with scripture, questioning my calling, and longing to feel God’s presence. It was a pivotal season, a time when the Lord began to reveal Himself and His purpose for my life in new ways.

Reading it now, a powerful truth washed over me. Every single thing I had been praying for back then has been answered, revealed, or fulfilled in ways I could never have imagined. With the clarity of hindsight, I can see this verse from Ephesians in action. Being blessed with every spiritual blessing isn't just an idea or a doctrine; it is the tangible work of God, woven through time and trust, as He brings His reality into our lives.

Let's look at what this really means.

God has blessed us.
This isn’t a passive wish. It means He actively causes us “to prosper, to make happy, to bestow blessings on.” It’s a deliberate act of divine favor.

He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing.
This speaks to the totality of His gift. He holds nothing back. We are given blessings to "the highest degree," the maximum of what is available.

This blessing is given in the spiritual realm.
This is a reality for the Church, made possible after Pentecost. It’s a deep, spiritual inheritance that transcends our physical circumstances.

And most importantly, we are blessed in Christ.
This is the key. The blessing has nothing to do with our own merit and everything to do with our position in Jesus.

For this incredible gift, we can only praise the Father.

It’s no wonder that later in this chapter, Paul prays for us to receive a Spirit of wisdom and revelation. He wants us to truly know the hope we have and the riches of the glorious inheritance that is ours as believers (Eph. 1:17-18).

In Christ, you are profoundly blessed. You have been given every spiritual blessing, not because of who you are, but because of who you belong to.

Today, my prayer is that both you and I would comprehend this incredible truth, and that this discovery would empower us to walk confidently in that blessing.
