When I was young, my best friend moved away. In a time before instant messaging and cheap long-distance calls, we relied on the slow, deliberate act of writing letters. For years, we shared our lives through ink on paper, and that friendship remains a cherished part of my story. The simple act of sending and receiving those letters kept our connection strong across the miles.

I imagine the Apostle Paul felt a similar connection to the church in Ephesus. He had invested three years of his life there, teaching and building a community of faith. Years later, while in prison, he picked up a pen to write to them. This letter wasn't just a simple update; it was a profound encouragement to the people he had pastored and loved.

Paul begins his letter by reminding them of two powerful truths: grace and peace. He knew he was called by God to share the good news, a mission that brought him significant opposition and eventually landed him in chains. Yet, his circumstances never swayed him from his purpose. His greeting to the believers in Ephesus serves as a powerful reminder that grace and peace are gifts from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

What a remarkable way to begin a letter! It's more than just a standard greeting; it's a declaration of a spiritual reality.

What if we started each day by consciously remembering God's grace? Grace is His unmerited favor, a kindness we don't deserve but receive freely through Jesus Christ. How might our perspective shift if we anchored our morning in the reality of that gift?

And what if we also centered ourselves in His peace? This isn't just the absence of conflict, but a deep sense of harmony and confidence with God that is ours through Christ. Imagine the difference it would make to carry that assurance throughout our day.

This is the beautiful truth Paul wanted his friends—and us—to grasp. Grace and peace are not abstract ideas but accessible realities meant to transform our daily lives.

So today, I offer the same greeting to you. May you experience the fullness of grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
